At E-lia, our goal is to make learning and sharing information as accessible as possible for everyone. We achieve this by sending small pieces of content through widely used channels like WhatsApp. This not only helps us reach a large percentage of our target audience but also ensures that the content resonates better thanks to the continuous learning process.
The idea for E-lia was born in 2021 during a conversation at the Groot Handelsgebouw in Rotterdam.
Michael van de Watering told Kees van Nuland that he had developed a custom app for his training company. The content was great — but hardly anyone used it. Employees didn’t want to install yet another app, and those who did quickly stopped using it.
That realization sparked a simple yet powerful idea:
What if learning took place through the apps people already use every day? Our choice quickly fell on WhatsApp — a channel everyone knows and uses effortlessly.
In 2022, we developed the first version of E-lia and tested it with the facility services department at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam.
The results exceeded all expectations.
Users said that WhatsApp was the perfect channel for receiving information and short learning modules. They could easily complete the lessons during a coffee break or on their way home.
The outcome was so positive that we decided to officially establish E-lia.
Since then, more and more organizations have started using E-lia to inform and train their employees — in a way that truly fits their workday.
The platform saves time and costs while preventing employees from being burdened with long training sessions or extra hours.
In this way, we make learning simple, efficient, and accessible for everyone again.
Accessibility: By using WhatsApp, we make learning simple and flexible. Our goal is to make learning as seamless as possible, so everyone can learn and grow anytime, anywhere.
Effectiveness and Efficiency: Our microlearning approach delivers better results by providing content in small, repeatable chunks. Perfect for a coffee break or on-the-go learning.
User-Friendliness: Building a module in E-lia takes an average of 10–15 minutes, sending it takes less than 30 seconds and completing it takes 3–6 minutes.
“E-lia helps us train our clients’ employees more efficiently and effectively. It allows us to maintain and secure the knowledge of hundreds of trained employees while building a lasting relationship with our clients.”
“At ETZ, we use E-lia to retain and maintain our employees’ knowledge after completing a training program. The tool is excellent for securing knowledge for employees in practice.”
